Product Care Guides

At Cocoon we believe in the integrity of our products. We also know that proper care, maintenance and cleaning are essential to maximizing the lifespan and enjoyment of your purchase. Please refer to our care guides below to help protect your investment.

UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

  • Rotate and fluff seat and back cushions regularly.
  • Vacuum using a soft brush attachment and crevice attachment to remove dust and debris.
  • Spot-clean spills following the cleaning code that corresponds with the code below that came with your article of furniture.
  • When spot-cleaning a stain or spill, clean from the middle of the affected area to prevent water or cleaning product outline marks from appearing at the edges of the spill.
  • Consult a professional upholstery cleaning service if the overall condition of your furniture is soiled.
  • Pilling is common with fabrics and should not be considered a defect or fault.
  • If pilling occurs, use an upholstery pill shaver or pill comb to remove raised fibers.
  • Repeat as necessary until pilling is abated.

LEATHER CARE

  • Leather is a natural material that can have marks such as scrapes, wrinkles and colour variations. These are part of the natural appeal of the hide and are not considered defects. The more you use your leather, the better it will look.
  • Wipe leather furniture occasionally with a clean, dry cloth to prevent dust buildup.
  • Clean spills immediately by blotting with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Blot difficult stains with a damp cloth.
  • Pretest any treatment on an inconspicuous area of the piece before proceeding.
  • Allow leather to dry naturally.
  • Keep in mind that leather will fade over time when exposed to direct sunlight.

SLIPCOVER CARE

  • Before removing slipcover for cleaning, ensure you know how to put it back on. Take photos of your article of furniture from all angles so that you will have a record of how the slipcover fits the piece.
  • If fabric is dry clean only, take slipcover to a professional dry cleaning service and specify that the pieces are for dry cleaning, not laundering.
  • If fabric is machine washable, close zippers on all pieces before washing.
  • Machine washing not recommended for slipcovers made of multiple fabric types.
  • Machine wash on the gentle cycle using cold water and mild detergent.
  • Hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat or air dry setting.
  • Return the slipcover to the piece of furniture while still slightly damp, starting at the top back and smoothing out wrinkles and pulling the slipcover into place from arm to arm. Fluff up any loose seat or back cushions and fit into damp covers.
  • After the slipcover is back on the piece, use a handheld steamer to smooth out remaining wrinkles. If no steamer is available, iron individual slipcover pieces before replacing them on the piece of furniture.
  • When not in use, store slipcovers in a lightweight sheet or muslin cover in a cool, dry area and out of direct sunlight.

PILLOW CARE

  • Flip pillows regularly to maintain shape and extend their life.
  • Fluff cushions regularly by pushing along the cushion surface, top to bottom and side to side.
  • It is normal for feather and down fillers to settle over time and become less fluffy.

BEDDING CARE

Cotton

  • Machine wash in warm water separately from other laundry items.
  • Pre-wash before first use.
  • For best results and longevity, line-drying is recommended.
  • If machine drying, remove from dryer while still slightly damp.
  • Iron while slightly damp.
  • For best results, use The Laundress fabric care products.

Linen

  • Don't dry clean your linen as it may react with some chemicals used in the dry cleaning process and weaken the fibres.
  • If hand washing, do so in cold or warm soapy water and rinse completely. This will help to avoid the formation of 'age spots'.
  • Linen can be machine washed in cold or warm water, using a mild detergent on a delicate cycle.
